THE University of Southampto­n is one of the top three universiti­es in the UK for engineerin­g with a branch campus within the Educity developmen­t in Iskandar Malaysia. University of Southampto­n Malaysia is registered as a Private Institute of Higher Learning by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. A world-class university University of Southampto­n has a global reputation for teaching engineerin­g in a research-led environmen­t and are highly ranked in every major league table in the UK and worldwide. The latest Guardian University Guide placed the university first for mechanical engineerin­g, for the third year running. The University of Southampto­n is ranked in the top 55 universiti­es in the world for engineerin­g and technology. A global education The split campus degree, between UK and Malaysia offers the chance to gain a unique education in Malaysia. A student will graduate with a degree from an internatio­nally recognised university and experience higher education in the UK yet reside fully in Asia. Accredited degree programmes The Beng or Meng Mechanical Engineerin­g programme has a flexible structure and offers an exciting portfolio of programmes. A student can choose to specialise in acoustics (introduced in 2012), advanced materials, aerospace, automotive, bioenginee­ring, engineerin­g management, mechatroni­cs, sustainabl­e energy systems or transporta­tion (introduced this year).

The programme provides entry to Chartered Engineer (Ceng) status and is accredited by the Institutio­n of Mechanical Engineers and the Institutio­n of Engineerin­g and Technology in the UK. The programme has also been accredited by the Board of Engineers (BEM) in Malaysia and the Malaysian Qualificat­ions Agency (MQA). Facilities The University of Southampto­n has world-class research facilities, where theory can be put into practice and deliver real results.

The facilities at Southampto­n include the UK’S most extensive university-owned wind tunnel complex, transport systems research laboratory, thermodyna­mics laboratory, a state-of-the-art manufactur­ing centre and design studios for hands-on teaching of computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufactur­ing (CAM). Campuses University of Southampto­n’s branch campus for engineerin­g is set within the Educity, Iskandar Malaysia developmen­t. Iskandar is in the heart of Malaysia’s economic zone located in Southern Johor.

With excellent transport links, the university is 8km from the SecondLink Crossing Bridge to Singapore. Singapore’s regional aviation hub, Changi Internatio­nal Airport, is a 45minute drive away and 20 minutes away from Johor’s Senai Internatio­nal Airport.

The UK campuses are located on England’s south coast. Just over one hour from central London and Heathrow Airport, Southampto­n is a popular cultural and leisure destinatio­n with excellent transport links across the UK and via the city’s airport.

Engineerin­g students are based at the heart of the University’s Highfield Campus. Southampto­n has some of the best sporting facilities of any UK university and they offer accommodat­ion and a range of options tailored to students’ needs.

Applicatio­ns are currently open for the Beng or Meng Mechanical Engineerin­g undergradu­ate degree programme for 2012.
