An outstanding pre-u college

KOLEJ Yayasan UEM (KYUEM) students gain excellent results in their Cambridge A-level examinations. They regularly gain admission to leading universities throughout the world.

Along with the highest level of academic achievement, they are encouraged to develop the “soft” skills that employers now expect.

They are taught how to take responsibility for their own actions. They are given opportunities to lead.

Last year 81% of all grades gained at Alevels were at A*, A or B. Nearly a quarter of all grades gained were at A* and over 58% were at A* or A.

At AS level, almost 84% of all grades gained were at A or B level (there is no A* grade at AS level).

Seven students gained either “Best in the World” or “Best in Malaysia” awards from the Cambridge International Examinations’ board. Five students this year have received offers from Cambridge University.

Each year around 80% of the students go to top-ranked universities in the UK, Australia and the United States.

These outcomes have become commonplace at the College since it was established in 1998. How is this level of success attained?

KYUEM students are selected not only based on academic ability but also because they displaye qualities of commitment to and success in a range of other activities.

The college employs well-qualified local and expatriate lecturers. Many lecturers have first class honours degrees, master’s degrees and doctorates.

They are convinced of the value of their work and all have a common desire - that their students should succeed.

KYUEM students work hard. Their days are full and assessment of their progress is rigorous and regular.

Students receive excellent advice about how to work effectively and how to revise.

They also receive guidance about university applications. Competition for places at the world’s leading universities is fiercer and admissions’ requirements are higher than they have ever been.

KYUEM students are capable of meeting these demands through university placement counselling they receive.

The college provides its students with a broad range of extra-curricular opportunities in sports, drama, debating and various other activities.

These help to develop their interests, personalities, team-working abilities, communication skills and leadership potential.

KYUEM believes in an all-rounded education.

Fully residential and co-educational, the college is located about 60km north of Kuala Lumpur in Lembah Beringin. Its location in a beautiful, environment is ideal for academic, pre-university life.

In many ways, KYUEM is a microcosm of Malaysia.

The demographic mix of its students mirror the nation’s population.

This helps make it an ideal place for international students whose applications are welcomed for this coming July intake.

Its diversity, its global outlook and the international make-up of its teaching staff ensure that all KYUEM students, both Malaysian and international, are well-prepared to make their mark in the fast-moving, demanding place that the world is in the 21st century. The college values tolerance. However, it is also committed to producing good people, young men and women who will play leading roles in their own nations and in the international economy.

It respects tradition and the Asian values of family, community and religious faith, but it also recognises education as the liberating and mind-broadening experience it has to be.

KYUEM encourages its students to reach for the stars.

It also helps them turn these ideals into reality.

KYUEM’S open day will be held on April 14 between 10.15am and 2pm at its campus in Lembah Beringin.
