Enter SL1M, the new and improved LPG cylinder

-

PUTRAJAYA: A Malaysian company has introduced a new composite Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder, which is lighter, cheaper and environmentally friendly.

Called the “silinder lpg 1 malaysia” or “SL1M”, the cylinders weigh only 7kg and 14kg, compared to standard ones which easily weigh 20kg even when empty, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who unveiled the SL1M here yesterday.

The lightweight composite LPG cylinders are manufactured by Faidhi Holdings Sdn Bhd.

Najib expressed hope that Malaysian oil companies would replace the current steel cylinders with the new ones. “Faidhi Holdings’ innovative product has big growth potential in the domestic and export markets.”

In his speech earlier, Najib called on venture capitalists and financial institutions to be brave when providing loans to smaller companies which have ideas and products that could make a difference.

He said financial institutions should accept that not every product or idea could become a bestseller.

“They should not think that they must get full returns from all the loans they give out.

“There may be a few that fail, and it is this fear (among financial institutions) that will thwart the growth of an innovation culture.

“If we look at developed nations, most of their billionaires had experienced failure, but they never gave up.”
