Quads to the fore in SPM exams
Brothers attribute success to regular revision, full concentration and group study
SUNGAI PETANI: Fondly known as Tiga Abdul (the Three Abduls) in school after a Tan Sri P. Ramlee movie, three surviving quadruplets in Kedah were overjoyed to obtain excellent results in their SPM.
The eldest, Abdullah Romli, scored 7As and 2Bs, the youngest Abdul Razak Romli scored 8As and a 1B, and Abdul Rahim Romli scored 9As.
The students of SM Sultan Abdul Halim (SMSAH) in Jitra were classmates and did their revision together after school.
Abdul Rahim described their success as a gift to their parents. Engineer Romli Ishak and technician Mazidah Othman, both 47, had always motivated them to continued excellence.
“Although we did not get the same results, we have pleased both our parents who have sacrificed so much for us,” he said at their home in Taman Peruda Utama yesterday.
Abdul Rahim said he was grateful to have been born a quadruplet — although the second sibling, Abdul Rahman, died of kidney failure at age five — as they could live together and help each other, including in studies.
Abdul Razak said all three of them wanted to be doctors but in different areas of expertise.
“I plan to become an anaesthetist, Abdul Rahim an orthopaedic and Abdullah a surgeon,” he said, adding that he wanted to study in Russia while Abdullah was planning to go to Egypt and Abdul Rahim to Ireland.
Abdul Razak added that their secret to success was full concentration in class, regular revision, plenty of practice and group study amongst the three brothers.
“We also share the same hobbies, and watching football helps us to relax. Even though we don’t support the same teams, we get along well and don’t quarrel,” he said.
