PETALING JAYA: Close to 600 students and teachers now have an edge in the Star-pizza Hut Newspaper-in-education (NIE) Mag Inc 2012 contest themed “Why English?” thanks to a workshop that taught them the tips and tricks of producing a winning threepage mini magazine.

The workshop, held at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus in Selangor, yesterday was the first in a series that will be held in major towns in peninsular Malaysia until April 14.

Last year, almost 170,000 students took part in the contest and walked away with pizza vouchers worth a total of Rm2.8mil, sponsored by Pizza Hut.

The grand prize winners from the Upper Secondary, Lower Secondary and Primary categories this year stand to win all-expenses paid trips to Hong Kong Disneyland together with their supervising teachers.

On top of that, scholarships worth a total of RM150,000 sponsored by Taylor’s University await the Upper Secondary champions.

“We take it as an honour and a privilege to be working with The Star and Pizza Hut and its English supplement, Star-nie, as its main focus is to educate students for the purpose of enhancing their English language proficiency,” said Taylor’s University School of Communication dean Josephine Tan.

Mag Inc 2012 is jointly organised by Pizza Hut and The Star, and is supported by the Education Ministry. For full story and contest details, see Stareducate this Sunday.
