Educate our young on child safety

-

WE read in the papers of innocent children being kidnapped, abducted, raped and even butchered. Parents should be more responsible, and never take things for granted.

A cute little girl is very vulnerable and can be easy prey for a rapist or sadist.

Parents should not take the easy way out by asking little children to do errands outside the house like buying things from a grocery store and the like. For all you know, that could be the last time, you would see them.

The primary school syllabus should also include a few topics on child safety, including advice to “not follow people unknown to you”, among other things.

Should the child have to walk to school, encourage him to walk in groups when going to and from school.

TV and other electronic media, should play their part by showing stories on child abduction and so forth. After watching such films, the child will at least be aware of the harm an adult can impose on him. MAIMON WAHID, Kuala Lumpur.
