Deterrent measures on killer dogs needed

-

YET another case of attack by these killer dogs (“Girl in hospital after dog attack” – The Star, March 20). Sad to say, Malaysians simply do not know how to take care of these ferocious beasts.

There are enough sad stories of innocent individuals being attacked by these beasts, and in some instances resulting in death.

I think it’s about time the Veterinary Department took a stand on these dogs. In the interest of safety, I urge the Government to ban the import and breeding of these killers.

Enough suffering has been inflicted on innocent individuals. No more of these Rottweilers should be allowed to be bred and kept.

In the case of existing ones, the owners must be held solely responsible. Owners must register their animals. Ensure that licences are renewed each year and cap these licences at RM500 a year.

These animals must be kept indoors at all times and no owner should be allowed to take them out for walks, not even on a leash because these animals are often stronger than their handlers.

If ever any one of these killer beasts attack someone, it should be immediately put to sleep and the owner fined heavily (surely not a meagre RM500) plus a possible jail sentence.

Only deterrent measures will make owners of these animals aware of their social responsibilities. SAFETY FOR ALL, Seremban.
