Tampered locks

-

Ihave long, permed and coloured hair. Recently, I noticed that I was losing a lot of hair. I washmy hair with shampoo followed by a conditioner every day. I also dry it with a hairdryer frequently, especially when I’m in a rush and don’t want to go out with a wet look! Is it advisable to wash and condition hair on a daily basis, and is the hot air from the hairdryer causingmy hair to become dry and frizzy? Will a hair mask help with the dry hair problem? – Lynn

According to Kenny Lai, senior executive, education at Redken, most of us use a number of products on our hair on a regular basis, whether it be for styling purposes, just to hold it in place or tone down the frizz.

As such, we need to cleanse and condition our hair daily. Don’t forget that it is also exposed to other aggressive elements such as pollution and air-conditioning, which also affect our hair health. That’s why it’s important that the right products are used to ensure clean and healthy hair.

Hair tends to dry up and become frizzy after one too many chemical treatments, and/or due to the heat from hair dryer, flat iron or curling iron. To protect your hair against the heat, you could apply Redken Heat Styling before you blow dry. The Redken Satinwear 02 Heat Styling range has high-technology, heat protective formulae that go well with hot styling tools.

To moisturise dry hair, use a hair masque that’s designed to give intensive care and nourish the hair. This will penetrate into the hair cuticle, softening and smoothen the hair surface. Redken’s All Soft Heavy Cream contains Keratin Enrich Complex, that’s composed of sodium PCA and Arginine (for moisture balance), argan oil (replenishes lipids) and Redken’s exclusive Interlock Protein Network (seals cuticle with a hydrophobic barrier and locks in key ingredients, so that hair becomes resilient to breakage). The product will help intensively soften and control frizz in extremely dry or brittle hair conditions. Over time, the deeply moisturising and conditioning treatment will improve hair manageability, flexibility and suppleness.

Nonetheless, for optimal hair health, it is best to go for a consultation to seek professional advice from a Redken salon on proper hair care regimen.

Redken will be giving Lynn an All Soft Shampoo, All Soft Heavy Cream Mask and Styling Satinwear 02, altogether worth RM205. I have fine lines aroundmy lower lip area andmy lip colour tends to bleed after a while. What can I do to overcome this?

The area aroundmy eyes feels really dry after taking a shower. I have tried applying eye cream but this dries up after some time. There are deep lines undermy eyes and because of this, I don’t apply any eye colour or liner, as I don’t want to draw attention to them. I look tired and washed out at the end of the day. What can I do to makemy make-up look fresh throughout the day? – Sri Valli

Even make-up artists have beauty problems, as Haritha Shan, senior artist M·A·C shares. There were times when she avoided wearing lip colour, because it wouldn’t stay on or the colour settled into the creases of the lips, and look horrible, she says. Then, Haritha discovered the wonder of a lip primer, M·A·C Prep + Prime Lip, a colour-free base to wear under lipstick. It adds light moisture, smoothes and refines the lips. At the same time, it reduces the appearance of fine lines and helps to lock the lipstick so that your lips will not bleed.

On daily basis, before you put on your lipstick, try this trick: take a piece of cotton and soak it in warm/hot water and place it on your lips for a few seconds. This method helps to take out the dead cells on the lips, so that your lips don’t produce fine lines. Apply a very little amount of M·A·C Lip Conditioner SPF15 with a brush to keep lips moistened.

You can either apply M·A·C Prep + Prime Lip directly from the tube or with a brush. The advantage of using a brush is to ensure that the product gets pushed into the crevasse of the lips nicely and doesn’t sit on the surface. Blot your lips with pressed powder lightly before applying lipstick.

For dry eyes, use M·A·C Fast Response Eye Cream. The super-charged, caffeinated cream de-puffs, erases the look of dark circles, firms, soothes and softens skin around the eye.

Use M·A·C Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer to cover blemishes and fine lines. Add on M·A·C Studio Fix powder to set the concealer before applying eyeshadow and liner.

To look fresh, apply a moisturiser such as the M·A·C Studio Moisture Fix SPF 15, that won’t leave your skin feeling greasy. Then use M·A·C Prep + Prime Skin Base, an ultra-fluid lotion formulated with special-effect silicone to calm and soothe the skin, and help lock your make-up as it lasts up to eight hours. A light liquid foundation followed by pressed powder will give a smooth, fresh-looking finish that you need.

If you want to give your face a touch of radiance, the key is to use an illuminating powder over your foundation, such as M·A·C Mineralize Skinfinish. After putting on colour for eyes and cheeks, do up your lips with M·A·C Cremesheen Glass, a lip finish that fuses the creamy, sheen-filled nature of Cremesheen Lipstick with the shine of M·A·C Lipglass for a natural and fuller-looking lips.

M·A·C will be giving Sri Valli a Prep + Prime Lip and Fast Response Eye Cream, altogether worth RM193.
