A WOMAN who was “heavily pregnant” was detained by a supermarket security guard after it was found that her big belly contained various candies worth RM200, reports Harian Metro.

The 25-year-old woman’s trick was exposed when a security guard was suspicious of the “oversized” belly and detained her for an inspection when the woman, from Bukit Payong, walked out of the supermarket at 10.30pm on Tuesday in Kuala Terengganu.

The guard found 18 packets of sweets of various brands concealed under the woman’s clothes.

> The number of kidnap victims and missing persons reported in the country is still under control and is not a worrying phenomenon, Inspector-general of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar was reported in Kosmo! as saying.

He said the issue of kidnapping and missing persons had been put into a worrying light because the cases had been sensationalised by certain quarters.

“The public need not worry because our country is safe and there is no need to set up a special task force to handle these cases. I believe in the capabilities of the police force in handling any crime,” he said.

The police said 4,057 people had been reported missing between 2009 and 2012 but only 30% of missing had been located. The fate of the others was unknown.

> The Selangor government paid for the flight home of a young abduction victim found in Bangkok, Sinar Harian reported.

“The teenager had to be brought home by flight for security reasons,” said state executive councillor Dr Yaacob Sapari, adding that the state government sent two officials to the Thai capital to accompany the 14-year-old girl.

The teenager was brought to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre in Petaling Jaya for a health check-up soon after she arrived on March 19.

The girl was reported missing on Jan 31 after her mother dropped her off at a bus station. On March 12, her family received a call from Thailand saying that she and a group of myanmar teenagers had escaped from kidnappers.
