KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed was in the glare of the limelight as he was grilled by the media after the Auditor-General’s interim audit report on 1MDB was presented to the Public Accounts Committee.

The PAC chairman appeared agitated yesterday when reporters kept asking whether any discrepancies or wrongdoings were found in the interim report.

“It is too premature to tell. However, we are satisfied with the way the investigations were carried out,” he told a press conference in Parliament.

The Pulai MP, who was accompanied by two other PAC members at the press conference, was also asked whether action could be taken if 1MDB refused to hand in the documents.

“It is a company under the Ministry of Finance. It should be able to provide the necessary documents,” he said.

All PAC members except for Tumpat MP Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar attended the meeting.

When asked to come to a conclusion on whether there was any suspicion raised in the report, Nur Jazlan dodged the question while holding the 70-page report.

“There is a lot for us to digest,” he added, saying that the report gave the PAC “conclusive information” on how to question 1MDB’s top management when they appeared before the PAC.

On the meeting, a PAC member said the inquiry went smoothly just like any other proceeding.

“Both sides of the political divide asked questions of the A-G and we received satisfactory answers,” he said.

Another PAC member said several members were seen “shaking their heads” when the report was explained by the A-G.

“Everybody wanted to know the truth and we applaud the A-G for doing a good job,” he said.

The final report is expected to be tabled by year’s end.

Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang said that what had been handed over was just an interim audit report.

“We have given them a lot of information and it is up to them to use it,” he said.
