Cops: Woman may have been wrongly shot

Shooting of church worker could have been a case of mistaken identity

SUNGAI BULOH: About three weeks after a Mongolian woman was shot in a case of mistaken identity, another female victim is also lying in hospital, possibly for the same reason.

Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Junaidi Bujang said the police are investigating whether the church administrative officer who was shot in Sierramas here could also have been a victim of mistaken identity.

The 51-year-old mother of two was at the junction leading to the Sungai Buloh toll plaza when a man on a motorcycle opened fire at her at about 8.30am on Wednesday.

Against all odds, however, the woman survived the ride-by shooting and is currently being treated at Hospital Sungai Buloh. She was injured on her face and left arm.

Supt Junaidi said the police are investigating the case from all angles.

“We are still trying to establish if she was a victim of mistaken identity,” he said.

Supt Junaidi also dismissed religion as a factor behind the shooting.

“There is no indication that the shooting was religiously motivated, as she was only an administrative staff.

“Her husband owns a brick factory. Neither the victim nor her family had enemies.”

The couple declined to speak to reporters when met at the hospital yesterday.

Investigations showed that two men on a motorcycle had stopped near the woman’s car before the pillion rider got off the vehicle and fired at the right side of the car. Both men were wearing full-faced helmets.

On June 15, a 26-year-old Mongolian woman was shot four times during a drive-by shooting at Dataran Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya while riding in the same car as her Datuk businessman acquaintance.

Nomin Erdene survived the attack. Police believe that the real target was her 35-yearold acquaintance from Sibu.

Investigations showed that the suspect behind the shooting harboured a personal vendetta against him due to a business deal that went awry.
