M’sians not affected in mall shooting

PETALING JAYA: No Malaysians were affected in the Munich shooting incident reportedly perpetrate­d by a lone assailant at the Olympia Einkaufzen­trum shopping mall.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement yesterday the German authoritie­s disclosed that 10 people, including the alleged gunman, were killed and 16 others injured.

“The Embassy of Malaysia in Berlin and the Consulate-General of Malaysia in Frankfurt are in close contact with the local authoritie­s and have provided timely updates to the Malaysian community there over the incident.

“Several groups of Malaysians who were near the vicinity during the incident, including a team of Malaysian athletes who are currently participat­ing in the 7th Track Open bowling tournament in Munich, have contacted our diplomatic missions and reported to be safe at secured locations,” it added.

The ministry conveyed condolence­s to the families of the victims.
