200 feared dead in ash oods
Anger erupted over floods in northern China that left more than 200 people dead or missing, with media and Internet users accusing officials of negligence.
Torrential rain has lashed the north and a flashflood near the town of Xingtai in Hebei province, which left at least 23 dead and 13 missing, has become a focus of the public’s dissatisfaction with the government’s response to the disaster.
Villagers blamed officials for failing to warn them of the deluge, saying water had reached chest-level before an alarm was raised. — AFP
