Spanish court overturns murder conviction

-

MADRID: A Spanish court has overturned a six-year jail sentence given to a minor convicted over the death of a Deportivo La Coruna fan in a brutal street fight in Madrid in 2014.

The youth, who was 17 at the time of the crime, was found guilty in February of homicide.

The judge ruled the youth had hit the victim with the intention of killing him during the pre-match brawl near Atletico Madrid’s Vicente Calderon Stadium on Nov 30 that year.

But an appeals court annulled his conviction for homicide on the grounds that the sentence was based on testimony that “lacked credibility”.
