First IIUM hospital opens in Kuantan
THE Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah launched the International Islamic University Malaysia’s (IIUM) first medical centre located at its campus in Indera Mahkota in Kuantan.
Construction of the centre which began in 2012 was completed in May at a cost of RM590mil which included medical equipment worth RM177mil.
This 11-storey syariah-compliant hospital has 350 beds, 15 specialist clinics, 20 operating theatres, intensive care unit (ICU), coronary care unit (CCU) and delivery rooms.
The centre is also equipped with sophisticated medical technology and equipment such as the Tesla MRI scanners, CT Scan machines, digital radiography equipment and heart scanners.
At the opening ceremony, the Sultan, who is also IIUM Constitutional Head, accompanied by the Sultanah of Pahang Sultanah Kalsom, visited the Radiology department to check on the advanced technology available at the centre.
Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob; IIUM president, who is also socio-cultural advisor to the government, Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim; and IIUM rector Prof Datuk Seri Zaleha Kamaruddin. – Bernama
