PM sickened by Kabul attack
Najib: Malaysia prays for Afghan people
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has condemned Saturday’s terror attack in Kabul, Afghanistan, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak saying that the “murder of innocents are never justified”.
Najib said the nation’s thoughts and prayers were with the Afghan people on their national day of mourning.
“Sickened by the attack in Kabul. Murder of innocents are never justified.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Afghan people on this national day of mourning,” he posted on his Twitter account @NajibRazak yesterday.
The international media reported that twin explosions had broken through a peaceful protest by Afghanistan’s Hazara ethnic community in the Afgan capital, killing at least 80 people and wounding more than 230 in a suicide attack claimed by Islamic State (IS).
It was also reported that two suicide bombers detonated explosives in the middle of the demonstrators, who were marching for a major regional power line to be routed through their home province.
In Padang Terap, Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the Government would not tolerate teachers or students promoting terrorism.
Such people were dangerous and used various new technologies to spread their ideology, he said.
Citing the detention of 14 people in five states from July 14 to 20 on suspicion of being involved in IS, Mahdzir said the group moved very discreetly in local communities.
“We want teachers to help the Government to explain that any association with IS contradicts Islam,” he told reporters after attending a Hari Raya open house at SMK Dato Syed Ahmad yesterday.
The ministry, he said, would direct its highest management to view aspects which could be inserted in the school curriculum to deal with the IS threat.
