Ignore the naysayers and work for the success of our country

I FEEL that too many Malaysians have got into the habit of running down our country and its economy and painting a negative picture by believing and circulating any and everything that is disparaging about our nation.

While we may disagree with the leadership on some issues, we should not take as gospel truth all the things some writers are saying about our country.

From my observation, whenever the economy catches a “cold” these so-called experts will behave as though that will lead to the end of development/growth.

Time and again, our country has proven them wrong and the resilience of the private sector and the hardworking and loyal citizens have easily overcome any negative aspects.

I also do not support the fear mongers’ predictions that the nation will fall apart due to racial conflict and polarisation.

While racial issues do exist – ask yourself where in the world there are no racial and religious issues – it is incumbent upon us to minimise these.

You can walk along any street in Malaysia at any hour of the day or night and no one will hurl racial insults at you.

Everyone is willing to help another if your car breaks down, or you ask for direction or need something.

Those who subscribe to such negative thoughts and actions are often guilty of such conduct.

I pray that as we celebrate 59 years of independence today, we Malaysians will work for the success of our nation and stop indulging in all these negative thoughts.

I therefore humbly urge Malaysians to carefully scrutinise the disparaging information/ messages they receive via e-mail, WhatsApp, etc., and stop circulating them.

Many of the writers of these messages have either migrated to other countries or do not live here and thus do not have firsthand knowledge of the situation and/or the interest of our country in their hearts.
