Najib: Convince women Umno has best agenda

PM: Puteri wing must assure them party’s struggle is for the people

KUALA LUMPUR: Puteri Umno has been entrusted to convince young women that Umno has the best agenda for the development of women in the country.

Party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Puteri Umno must assure the young generation that the party’s struggle was for the people.

“While the other side (the Opposition) can only play on hate politics and talk bad about other people, we actually have a development and transformation agenda.

“Badmouthing another person is easy but it doesn’t take you anywhere. Women in the country will prosper if we have a better and superior agenda for the country, which they don’t have but we have,” he said at the launch of the inaugural Young Women Festival organised by Puteri Umno here yesterday.

“The wing has also another task to prepare young women in facing future challenges ahead of them in life.

“We go beyond politics. We must be more idealistic than just fishing for their votes.

“What we need to do is to prepare the young women by empowering them through knowledge, soft skills, leadership and networking,” he said.

The Prime Minister said he was confident that Puteri Umno would be able to carry out the tasks given.

The Government, he said, had long supported women in its various policies.

“With monetary funds like Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia and Tekun, we have helped 2.45 million women entrepreneurs.

“They show an excellent track record in paying back the loans with 96% loans repaid.

“There are 34% women in the public sector. In fact, there are many women in other ministries apart from the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry,” he said.

Earlier in her welcoming speech, Puteri Umno chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said young women must solidify their sisterhood and support each other to achieve success.
