10 trafficked victims rescued
Police have rescued 10 Indonesian women, believed to be victims of a human trafficking syndicate, during an operation at a house in Taman Intan near here.
Kuala Muda police chief Asst Comm Md Zukir Md Isa said the victims, aged between 20 and 50, were forced to work as cleaners. A 51-year-old woman, said to be the owner of the house, was detained during the 9.45pm raid on Saturday to assist in investigations.
ACP Md Zukir said the women would be remanded for five days and that the case would be investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
