10 trafficked victims rescued

Police have rescued 10 Indonesian women, believed to be victims of a human traffickin­g syndicate, during an operation at a house in Taman Intan near here.

Kuala Muda police chief Asst Comm Md Zukir Md Isa said the victims, aged between 20 and 50, were forced to work as cleaners. A 51-year-old woman, said to be the owner of the house, was detained during the 9.45pm raid on Saturday to assist in investigat­ions.

ACP Md Zukir said the women would be remanded for five days and that the case would be investigat­ed under Section 12 of the Anti-Traffickin­g in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
