Penang lass continues to shine in China singing contest
PENANG lass Lee Pei Ling is once again being praised for her solid performance at the Sing! China competition, China Press reported.
The Form Three student of Chung Ling High School managed to win the hearts of the judges when she sang Fight Song by Rachel Platten on Saturday night.
Her performance also impressed the panel of “mentors” China’s Na Ying and Wang Feng as well as Taiwan’s Jay Chou and Harlem Yu.
Pei Ling, who is under Na Ying’s team, secured her place in the top 12 by getting 38 votes from 51 judges.
There was also speculation that Pei Ling had made it to the top six in the competition, though the show will only be aired on Friday. Sing! China formerly known as 2016 The Voice of China, the unofficial Chinese version of the US hit The Voice.
The show debuted in 2013 but its producers changed its name to Sing! China and reintroduced it on July 15 after legal disputes.
> Major Chinese dailies reported that the Federation of Chinese Associations of Malaysia (Hua Zong) president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah and his deputy Datuk Cheng Lai Hock retained their posts unopposed in their election.
There were 124 representatives in the election, which was held at Wisma Hua Zong on Sunday, reported Sin Chew Daily.
Pheng, in his speech, called for unity among Chinese organisations.
He also urged the Government to allocate adequate funds for developing education in the country.
Among the resolutions passed unanimously at its annual general meeting included urging the Election Commission to be fair in the redelineation of electoral constituencies.
The Federation was also strongly against PAS’ intention to table its Private Member’s Bill aimed at expanding the powers of the Syariah Court.
