One man’s dog is a nuisance to another

-

I REFER to the letter “Give us a kinder dog policy” ( The Star, Sept 23). There are a few points in the letter that some readers may not agree with. The writer must not assume that everybody is a dog lover. To some, having dogs in their neighbourhood could destroy the peace and quiet most people look forward to especially at night when everyone needs to have a peaceful rest.

Nevertheless, some dog lovers and owners may put safety of their homes first and goodwill with their neighbours second.

To cut the matter short, whether the current ruling of getting consent from neighbours before rearing dogs or prohibiting people living in terraced houses to rear dogs and allowing owners in corner houses to rear up to two dogs and etc. (as in the case in Malacca), fairness must prevail in any discussion and any solution must be worked out for the best interest of everyone.

Dog owners should be responsible and take into account their neighbours’ wellbeing.

Acquiring knowledge and good skills in rearing dogs should be their responsibility and they must not let their dogs be a nuisance to their neighbours and the community at large.

We live in a multi-racial society where the most important thing we look forward to is peace and harmony in our community. MRS CHAN Malacca
