Shuttlers Zii Jia and Sonia fail to make final in Poland

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia suffered a double blow at the Polish International Series with the defeats of Lee Zii Jia and Sonia Cheah.

Dutch Junior Open champion Zii Jia found India’s Sourabh Varma a tough nut to crack, going down tamely 21-16, 21-15 in 26 minutes in the men’s singles semi-finals in Beirun on Saturday.

Sonia, fresh from winning last week’s Belgian International, failed to reproduce the same form. She went down 21-17, 28-26 to Rasika Raje of India in 45 minutes in the women’s singles semi-finals.

Rasika will take on team-mate Rituparna Das, thus assuring one title for India.
