Uniten’s feat at hockey meet

UNIVERSITI Tenaga Nasional (Uniten) took home two golds at the recent Kuantan Seven Hockey Challenge Championsh­ip.

The varsity’s Uniten Ace won the men’s category while Uniten Ivy emerged as the champions ofthe women’s category.

The championsh­ip was organised by the Kuantan Hockey Associatio­n together with the Pahang Hockey Associatio­n and held over two days at the Wisma Belia Indera Mahkota Hockey Stadium, Kuantan.

During the finals, Uniten Ace beat the Royal Malay Soldiers Regiment (RAMD) in the men’s open category finals with a score of1-0 thanks to a goal by Mohd Haikal Zamri.

Uniten Ivy (A) and Uniten Ivy (B) made it into the finals ofthe women’s open category.

However, Uniten Ivy (A) beat their varsity-mates with a final goal by Nur Zafira Abdul Aziz with a final score of4-3.

During the prize presentati­on and closing ceremony, Uniten continued to dominate the championsh­ip with five ofits players receiving the special championsh­ip award.

The best goalkeeper award went to Priyangga S. Jayarajah while Most Promising Female Player went to Nur Zafira Abdul Aziz, Nur Aisyah Yaacob won the Best Female Player award, Mohd Haikal Zamri won the Most Promising Male Player award and Muhammad Firdaus Omar won the Best Male Player award.

Uniten’s hockey teams’ success shows the university’s commitment in sports developmen­t.

This is also because Uniten has been tasked by the Higher Education Ministry’s Sports Division to conduct hockey developmen­t programmes at the university level.
