Can’t we do something about the flooding

-

I WORK in Kuala Lumpur and, for the past 10 years, I have been using the Federal Highway daily to get to my office. Every week day morning, thousands of people use the Federal Highway to get to the city to earn their living.

On a dry day, I don’t have much to complain about as it’s generally a nice ride despite the high number of cars on the road.

But it’s an entirely different matter on a wet day, and especially when the rain is very heavy.

Without fail, on these wet days, one or two lanes opposite the Kuan Ching High School will be inundated with water, causing traffic on the Federal Highway to slow down to a crawl.

One can imagine the situation when every driver on the right lane (heading to the city) would need to get on the adjacent left lane during rush hour.

At times, the tailback can reach right up to University Hospital (this is at 7.30am when I’m on the road).

It’s not a pleasant experience! The irony is the road where this flooding happens is right next to the Klang River.

Given the proximity to the river, I’m puzzled that this flooding issue cannot be solved and it gives me the impression that this may not be in the list of the relevant authorities’ priorities even though it affects thousands of commuters and their productivity.

I’m resorting to writing this letter to seek answers to an issue that never fails to exasperate and bewilder me especially when I’m stuck in traffic in Federal Highway during a rainy day.

I believe I’m not alone in my hope that something concrete can be done to solve this problem and make the commute to KL a decent experience, rain or shine. PENNING ARBITRARY THOUGHTS Subang Jaya
