Ampang Jaya beat BU Dragons to emerge champions in JCC

PETALING JAYA: Ampang Jaya Badminton Club (BC) were easy winners of the Junior Champions Challenge (JCC).

Yesterday, they outclassed BU Dragons BC 9-2 in the final at the Sports Arena in Serdang.

Tan Jia Wei wasted little time in dispatchin­g BU Dragons’ Loo Bing Kun 11-4, 11-4, 11-4 in the boys’ singles for Ampang Jaya to take a 3-0 lead.

Wang Zhi Yi then contribute­d another three points as she whipped BU Dragons’ rising star K. Letshanaa 11-7, 11-5, 11-9 in the girls’ singles.

Tang Xin-Tan Kok Xian kept the momentum going for Ampang Jaya with a sensationa­l 10-11, 11-9, 11-4, 10-11, 11-8 win over Leong Jun Kai-Owen Ting Shih Wee in the boys’ doubles.

Ampang Jaya head coach Ho Khek Mong was over the moon with the win.

“I have been waiting for this moment for a very long time. This has been our goal and we have worked hard to achieve it. I am so proud of the team,” said Khek Mong.

Ampang Jaya were rewarded RM25,000 for their efforts while BU Dragons took home RM15,000.

In the battle for third place, Petaling BC edged Kepong BC 10-9. Petaling pocketed RM6,000 while Kepong had to settle for RM4,000.
