Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin bag their second title in Switzerland

PETALING JAYA: Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani continue to sizzle in world badminton.

Yesterday, the youngsters bagged their second international title when they defeated team-mates Aaron Chia-Wong Wai Jun 21-18, 21-12 in the men’s doubles final at the Swiss International Series in Yverdon-les Bains, Switzerland.

Last month, Sze Fei-Izzuddin lifted their maiden title at the Singapore International Series. They also finished runners-up at the Vietnam International Series earlier this month.

National back-up coach Cheah Soon Kit was pleased with the boys’ progress.

“It has been a good year for Sze FeiIzzuddin. They have been consistent and showed some improvements. We hope they will slowly move up the ranks,” said Soon Kit, who was appointed as the men’s doubles back-up coach in January this year.

There was, however, disappointment for Malaysia in the women’s singles and doubles finals.

In the women’s singles final, Lee Ying Ying started off brilliantly but could not sustain her form to lose 21-16, 19-21, 15-21 to top seed Sabrina Jaquet of Switzerland in 65 minutes.

Top seeds Amelia Anscelly-Teoh Mei Xing also ran out of steam in the women’s doubles final. They were beaten 21-13, 20-22, 10-21 by second seeds Cheryl Seinen-Iris Tabeling of France.

“The title should have been ours. We started so well but got stressed out in the second game. After taking the lead, we were so eager to finish the match. We just couldn’t recover after that,” said Amelia.
