Troublemakers in Red Shirts, Bersih to face action

-

THE Home Ministry has given an assurance that action will be taken against troublemakers in the Red Shirts and Bersih movements.

Deputy Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said that a total of 175 police reports were made against both groups over the past two months.

He said investigations were ongoing and added that the troublemakers could be charged in court.

“We want all parties to adhere to the law. Don’t say you are fighting to uphold the law and national interests when you turn your backs on the very same laws passed in Parliament,” he said in reply to Ng Wei Aik (DAP-Tanjong) in the special chambers.

Ng wanted to know about the alleged lack of action against the Red Shirts and its leader Datuk Jamal Yunos.

Nur Jazlan said police needed time to gather evidence to charge the troublemakers in court.

He also cited several occasions when police investigated Jamal and his Red Shirts supporters.

Nur Jazlan said Mohd Ali Baharom (Ali Tinju) was investigated last month while Jamal and his Facebook page manager Azli Jaafar were hauled up last week, and that a Red Shirts demonstration at DAP headquarters last July was probed.

In a written reply to Teo Nie Ching (DAPKulai), the ministry said Ali Tinju was being investigated for his alleged “she will never walk this earth again” remarks against Bersih leader Maria Chin Abdullah.

The ministry stated that the investigation papers were referred to the deputy public prosecutor on Sept 27, but police were asked to investigate further.

Chin had in her police report stated that Ali Tinju made a criminal threat against her life.
