KUALA LUMPUR: Police busted a drug syndicate with links to the notorious Gang 36 and recovered more than RM7mil worth of drugs.

Police from the city narcotics department stormed a storage container in Jalan Antoi Kanan 6, Kepong, and found more than 100kg of ketamine.

City police chief Comm Datuk Amar Singh said police arrested eight people aged 30 to 54, including a woman, during the Friday raid.

“We also found two bags with 2kg of ketamine, a bottle of chloroform and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol stashed behind the container, which was being used as a drug den,” he told reporters at the city police headquarters yesterday.

Following that, police were led to some bushes near the container where they found three bags wrapped in plastic sheets.

“Inside, we found 99kg of ketamine, and with the 2kg found earlier, the total is worth RM7.07mil.”

Comm Amar Singh said the 38-year-old mastermind of the drug ring, who was also arrested during the raid, was a member of Gang 36.

Comm Amar Singh said police had been monitoring the group for a few months and believed the drugs were smuggled from abroad and sold in the Klang Valley, mainly in entertainment outlets.

“The amount is huge. If one person were to take one gramme of this drug, it is enough for 101,000 people or abusers,” he said.

All eight have been remanded until Thursday.
