PUTRAJAYA: Youths from all over the country can have their say on Malaysia’s future by joining the nationwide tour of the 2050 National Transformation (TN50) initiative, which kicks off this Friday.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin promised that those who attended the roadshows in their home state would be able to “have a shot” at him and air whatever views they have.

“I want to engage as many people as we can.

“At our tours, you can expect to have your shot at the minister, and say whatever you want.

“But do keep the focus topic on the future,” Khairy said at a media briefing at his ministry yesterday.

Khairy said those who did not get to speak with him at the event could still air their views by posting them online or at the “Post-it Note” sections.

The “Jelajah TN50” roadshow is open to all youths and would start at Universiti Malaysia Sabah on Friday, before moving across the South China Sea to Universiti Teknologi Mara in Dungun, Terengganu on Feb 27.

The tour would then proceed to Johor on March 3 where it would be held at Holiday Villa Johor Baru, Universiti Teknologi Petronas in Perak on March 8, before moving to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak on March 11.

Other states would also be included and details would be announced later.

Announced last month, the TN50 roadmap would outline the economic, social, cultural and environmental targets Malaysia aims to achieve by 2050.

Seven focus areas for TN50 have been identified, namely values, governance, environment, education, occupation, lifestyle and “Malaysia on the Global Stage”.

From March to September, a select group of youths called the “TN50 Future Group” would be having thorough discussions on the seven focus areas to produce more “concrete” aims.

The outcome of the TN50 Future Group discussions would then be presented to the public to be debated by all youths at the TN50 conferences, which would be held from April to September.

Mini-dialogues would be held between March and September with specific segments of the youths, such as NGOs, women groups, the disabled and soldiers, among others.

Khairy said that the target was to produce a summary report of the TN50 engagement sessions by the end of the year.
