Adenan’s son shines aiding mum
Azizul joins new Tanjong Datu rep’s walkabout
LUNDU: Azizul Annuar Adenan has hit the ground running to help his mother Puan Sri Jamilah Anu, the newly-elected representative of Tanjong Datu, meet with constituents.
Azizul, the youngest son of the former Sarawak chief minister the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem, took part in a walkabout around town yesterday where he met the people and heard their views and complaints.
The 26-year-old played a key role during the two-week campaigning period to help his mother win the by-election.
While his mother had to stay away from public campaigning as she was observing the iddah (mourning period) until May 18, Azizul wasted no time asserting himself as an able helper.
“We would like to thank the people and voters for their trust and confidence, as well as the Barisan Nasional machinery that had worked hard to ensure a resounding victory for my mother last Saturday,” Azizul said.
“My mother would not have won with an overwhelming majority if it wasn’t for the support of all parties, in particular the leaders of PBB and other Barisan component parties,” he said during yesterday’s walkabout.
Azizul said his mother planned to hold a ceremony in Tanjong Datu to celebrate the win and organise a pre-Gawai event in appreciation of Lundu’s Dayak community.
Jamilah, 61, won the by-election with a 6,443-vote majority, defeating Rapelson Richard Hamit of PBDS Baru and STAR’s Johnny Bob Aput. They only managed 130 and 108 votes respectively.
The Tanjong Datu by-election was triggered by Adenan’s death on Jan 11.
