IRB upgrades e-filing system, expects increase in tax return filings

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has upgraded its efiling system in anticipation of higher numbers of people filing their tax returns online.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Sabin Samitah said that they expected more than four million electronic submissions, an increase of at least 2.4% from last year.

“We urge all taxpayers to submit their tax returns early so that we can quickly process and refund any excess to them,” he said after the FIT Hasil 2017 sports event at the IRB office here yesterday.

Sabin said submitting their tax returns and paying taxes on time would avoid late penalties from being imposed.

He said taxpayers could make use of the efiling system from March 1.

The deadline for those without business income (BE form) is April 30 while the tax return form of employers (E form) is March 31.

Following an amendment in the tax law, it is mandatory for companies to submit their E forms electronically.

Some 70% to 80% of taxpayers submitted their BE form electronically last year.

IRB collected RM114.015bil last year, which was 52.51% of the overall revenue for the Government.

We urge all taxpayers to submit their returns early. Datuk Sabin Samitah
