KUALA LUMPUR: Creativity gets you places, and no one knows this better than Chan Sheue Fong.

The 60-year-old’s catchy slogan ‘Travel deals aplenty, sure got one kena your fancy’ earned her a RM5,000 travel voucher from the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), to any destination she chooses.

Chan, a retiree, who looked excited during the prize giving ceremony at Putra World Trade Centre yesterday, said she stumbled upon the contest while surfing the Internet.

“I saw the contest and it didn’t take long to come up with the slogan,” she said.

The contest ran on the matta.travel website which ended on March 12, drew about 300 entries.

Four other winners took home travel vouchers worth RM4,000, RM3,000, RM2,000 and RM1,000.

Chan has yet to decide where she would be travelling. She had joined the thousands who turned up on the first day of the MATTA Fair to look for a good deal.

MATTA honorary secretary-general Nigel Wong said this was the first slogan contest to run on the online platform.

“People are now buying a lot more online and travel is one of the industry sectors that is experiencing a huge growth online.”

“The platform was created to assist our members who are travel agents to get a piece of that market. We are promoting this travel platform because all our agents are already licensed so if you buy from the site, it’s not going to be a fly-by-night purchase,” he said.

He added that consumers can look for good offers and something new every month on the website.

This year’s MATTA Fair has more offerings with 1,299 booths spread across seven halls.

The Merdeka Hall, Merdeka Foyer and Hall 4 are dedicated to domestic tourism.

Visitors are able to take part in the Buyers’ Contest with every RM300 spent on international travel or RM100 on domestic travel this weekend, entitling them to one entry for the contest.

Prizes up for grabs range from a roundtrip to London to a RM5,000 travel voucher. The three-day MATTA Fair 2017, which goes on until tomorrow, is held from 10am to 9pm at the Putra World Trade Centre, with an entrance fee of RM4.
