Jin Wei eager for action after a twomonth layoff

KUALA LUMPUR: Women’s singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei is itching for action after being sidelined for the past two months.

The 17-year-old has been out since picking up an ankle injury during her second-round defeat at the Malaysian Masters in January.

The former world junior champion, however, believes that she’s ready to make a fresh start at the Malaysian Open in Kuching from April 4-9 and the Singapore Open from April 11-16.

“I underwent two months of rehabilitation and I’m in good shape now. I’m already back to my normal training routine,” said national No. 1 Jin Wei.

“I’ve learned a lot from this injury. I have been going through more conditioning training and I believe that my body is stronger than before.

“Having missed two months of action, I’m looking forward to being on court again and doing well in the Malaysian Open and Singapore Open.

“I’m not setting high targets. I’m just aiming to win my first match ... and then hopefully take on higher-ranked players.”

The world No. 31 is drawn to meet a qualifier in the first round of the Malaysian Open and probably world No. 5 and Olympic silver medallist P.V. Sindhu of India in the second round.

Jin Wei is also likely to compete in the Sudirman Cup in Gold Coast, Australia, from May 21-28.

“I hope to be able to contribute a point if I’m selected to play ... that’s why I need to be well-prepared,” said the Penangite.

Besides Jin Wei, Malaysia also have the option of fielding the likes of world No. 43 Soniia Cheah, world No. 56 Ho Yen Mei and world No. 59 Lee Ying Ying for the Sudirman Cup.
