- By AFTAR SINGH

SUBANG: National rifle shooter Muhd Ezuan Nasir Khan has done it again.

A day after rewriting his own 10m air rifle national record, the 28- year- old accumulated 246.9 points to shatter the national mark in the 50m rifle prone event in the Tun Hanif Trophy at the Subang Shooting Range yesterday.

His effort erased the previous record of 237.9 set by Johor’s Mohd Shahril Sahak in the Chia Woh Trophy in Subang in August, 2014.

Muhamad Zubair Mohamad of Kuala Lumpur finished second yesterday with 244.3 points – which also bettered the old record.

Zul Haziq Rosli, also of KL, was third with 223.0 points.

This is the first that Ezuan has broken two national records in as many days in the same competition.

“This is my best achievement in a local meet ... I could not have asked for better results.

“I have shown that I’m the best rifle shooter in the country. I hope to maintain my good form for the rest of the year,” said Ezuan, who

was dropped from the Podium Programme last month due to poor results in competitions.

He wasn’t the only one who shone yesterday.

Alia Sazana Azahari shared the spotlight when she gunned down the national record in the women’s 10m air pistol event.

The 25- year- old Terengganu shooter’s 235.5- point effort bettered the previous mark of 229.9 set by Bibiana Ng Pei Chin in Tun Tan Siew Sin Trophy last May.

Joseline Cheah Lee Yean of Armed Forces took silver yesterday with 233.0 points, which is also better than the old record.

Police’s Bibiana (209.2pts) was third.

“I’m surprised ... I wasn’t aiming for a medal in this event,” said Alia, who won gold in the 25m pistol event in the Sinagpore SEA Games in 2015.

“But I did exceptionally well because there was no pressure on me.

“This is the first time I’ve broken a national record ... it’s a big boost for me. I’m looking forward to achieving another personal best in the 25m pistol, which is my favourite event, today.”
