Still no luck for Nur Durriyah at Singapore Amateur Open

PETALING JAYA: There’s still no cheer for Nur Durriyah Damian (pic) at the Singapore Ladies Amateur Open.

The 21-year-old had to settle for third place – a rung lower than last year – as Thai youngster Kan Bunnabodee romped to a three-shot victory at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club yesterday.

Kan, 15, went into the final round with a two-stroke advantage over Durriyah and she closed with a solid two-under 68 to hold off the chasing pack and won on three-under 207 total.

Compatriot Kultida Pramphun made it a 1-2 finish also with a 68 while Durriyah could only manage a successive 70 for third on 211.

Durriyah, who parred all the 18 holes, however had no complaints about her result.

“I didn’t do anything wrong today, it’s just that birdie continues to elude me. Again I missed way too many putts,” said Durriyah.

“Still, I’m quite pleased with the third placing. It’s my first top three finish on the international stage this year,” added the world No. 300.

Winnie Ng Yu Xuan and Qistina Balqis Azhar were the next bestplaced Malaysians in fifth and eight respectively.

Winnie, the Kuala Lumpur Amateur Open winner three weeks ago, ended her campaign with a 70 for 216 while Qistina carded 76 for 219.

Meanwhile, Galven Kendall Green has triumphed for the second time in just five days as he cruised to a six-shot win at the Negri Sembilan Amateur Open.

Galven picked up where he left off at the Selangor Amateur Open on Sunday, closing with a one-under 71 to finish on a three-day total of 216.

Kuala Lumpur Amateur Open champion Yong Fatt Hoe came in second while K. Rhaasrikanesh, who lost to Galven in last week’s playoff, finished third.

The women’s crown went to Khaw Wen Jun, who claimed a fourshot win over Siti Zulaikha Shaari.
