IPOH: Noor Shairah Hussin is still haunted by the memory of her mother’s bloodsoaked body on the bed with gaping wounds on her back and shoulders.

Weeping, the 17yearold said since Hamidah Abdul Rahman’s death at their home in Taman Dato Lew Yap Sip here on March 13, things had been tough.

“I can’t keep the thoughts away. I can still see her lying on the bed. I miss her so much,” said Noor Shairah, who had gone to check on her mother that day after she failed to turn up at the market where she was a trader.

However, Noor Shairah, the youngest among her four siblings, said she was determined to take it one day at a time and continue studying hard for her SPM later this year.

“I won’t disappoint my mother, who singlehandedly raised all of us after her divorce 10 years ago. I was very happy when she got engaged because that would have meant she needn’t be alone anymore.

“Unfortunately, just days later, she died,” Noor Shairah told reporters after meeting Social Security Organisation (Socso) state director Noorhanita Mohamad yesterday.

Noorhanita was at the house of Noor Shairah’s uncle, Mat Razali Abdul Rahman, in Kampung Rapat Jaya Tambahan to hand over RM1,500 in burial aid from Socso.

“We are also here to tell Noor Shairah that she will start receiving RM285 in survivor’s pension from next month onwards.

“She will receive this monthly sum until she turns 21. If she’s still pursuing her studies at the time of her 21st birthday, she will continue to receive this pension until she completes her degree,” said Noorhanita.

Earlier, at the magistrate’s court, 34yearold chicken trader Mohd Nur Hussein Mohd Salleh was charged with Hamidah’s murder.

Mohd Nur Hussein, who was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code that carries the death penalty, allegedly committed the offence at a house in Persiaran Wira Jaya Timur 38, between midnight and 5am on March 13. No plea was recorded.

Magistrate Nur Melati Diana Abd Wahab ordered Mohd Nur Hussein to undergo psychiatric observation for a month at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta and fixed mention on April 20.
