JOHOR BARU: Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar wants the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to seek an audience with him over his allegation of a title-buying attempt.
The Johor Ruler said an individual offered him RM2mil in order for the name to be suggested to the Chief Secretary to the Government to get a “Tan Sri” title from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Sultan Ibrahim said on his official Facebook page yesterday that he is ready to reveal the information of those who are trying to buy him over.
“I want MACC to seek an audience with me as soon as possible for this matter to be investigated.
“This is Johor ... we have our pride. You cannot buy awards and titles with money,” he said.
In a recent interview, Sultan Ibrahim made it clear Johor has always been strict in the awarding of datukships.
“Johor titles and medals were the most difficult to get,” said Sultan Ibrahim.
Candidates have to undergo stringent vetting by the state government, Johor Council of the Royal Court, Johor royal family members, as well as background checks on their lifestyle, besides police security vetting.
Sultan Ibrahim said stringent vetting was applied during the reign of his late father, and stressed that it would even be more difficult to obtain the titles during his reign.
Only three Datukships were awarded in conjunction with his 59th birthday this year, as announced by the Johor Council of the Royal Court on Tuesday.
