Dr M and Nazri cross paths – but fiery exchanges not on menu

-

KUALA KANGSAR: Despite the earlier hostile challenges thrown at each other, it was a cordial meeting between Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman and former prime minister, together with his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali and son Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir arrived in the constituency to meet the rakyat during a PPBM function at 4.25pm yesterday, with Nazri, already there waiting, as promised.

The two met at Lembah Sungai Perak here after the Padang Rengas MP rushed over from the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) Sultan Azlan Shah – the place where the debate was originally scheduled – after he learned that Dr Mahathir would be arriving at the location instead.

But rather than engaging in a battle of words, they merely exchanged pleasantries, among heavy media presence, and sat next to each other for a meal.

The meeting was mostly cordial, but Dr Mahathir was seen mostly keeping to himself as he tucked into the laksa served, while Nazri often spoke to the person on his other side while savouring a bowl of cendol.

The two eventually shared a laugh or two, as response to several conversations started by others.

Earlier, Nazri was seen waiting together with some 50 supporters in front of MRSM Sultan Azlan Shah since 1pm.

The debate between Dr Mahathir and Nazri was initially scheduled to be held on March 25 but it had been postponed to April 7.
