Good Samaritan nearly falls prey to ‘injured’ trio

-

KOTA KINABALU: A Good Samaritan who stopped his car to help when he saw three people lying by the roadside near Kg Bauto, Telupid, nearly lost his watch instead.

However, with the help of villagers nearby, the man in his 30s managed to get his watch back and even caught two of the suspects.

The victim was heading back to Sandakan from Kota Kinabalu when he passed by the area at about 5.30am on Friday and was surprised to see the three sprawled on the road, said Beluran police chief Supt Sivananthan Velautham.

He drove closer and heard one of the three crying for help. When he wound down the window to find out what was happening, his watch was snatched.

The victim then asked some villagers who happened to be nearby if they recognised the three suspects but they told him no.

The victim then saw the man who grabbed his watch among the people gathered around him. The suspect lunged at the victim and tried to attack him, but was quickly stopped by the villagers.

The other two suspects, said to be a husband and wife team, then tried to run away. The villagers caught the woman but her husband escaped.
