Cops hope to get hold of six suspects

JOHOR BARU: Police are working with their Indonesian counterpar­ts to extradite six suspects from Batam involved in the kidnapping of a housewife in Johor.

The suspects were also being investigat­ed for the offence in their homeland, said deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Zakaria Ahmad.

“Investigat­ions into the case is almost completed,” he said, adding that the remand order on the suspects arrested in Johor would end tomorrow.

Nineteen people, including the main coordinato­r, were nabbed in the case of a woman who was kidnapped from her home in Kulai on Feb 21 and later held captive in Batam.

The housewife was released 27 days later after her family paid a ransom.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had said that 13 suspects were nabbed in Johor while the rest were caught in Batam.
