Jing Yi continues to sync well with Joyce to beat Ririn-Anna in semis
PETALING JAYA: Tee Jing Yi is enjoying her spell as a doubles player.
The 26-year-old, who switched from singles last month, made an impressive international debut with 21- year- old Joyce Choong after they stormed into the final of the Vietnam International Challenge in Hanoi yesterday.
Unseeded Jing Yi-Joyce were on song as they defeated the third seeded Indonesian-Malaysian pairing of Ririn Amelia-Anna Cheong 21-13, 21-15 in the semi-finals.
Jing Yi-Joyce will take on Japan’s Erina Honda- Nozomi Shimizu, who beat Indonesia’s Rahmadhani Hastiyanti PutriVania Arianti Sukoco 23-21, 23-21, for the title today.
“It’s quite a good win for us considering we don’t train much together. We only have one session together every week,” said Jing Yi.
“The Japanese pair will be pretty tough so we need to prepare well. Hopefully we can go on playing well in the final.”
Jing Yi-Joyce are the only Malaysians left after independent Nur Aziryn Ayub-Jagdish Singh were knocked out in the men’s doubles semi-finals.
Eighth seeds Azriyn-Jagdish failed to raise their game, losing 21-18, 17-21, 18-21 to Thailand’s Trawut Potieng- Nanthakarn Yordphaisong.
