Russian varsity opens local office

THE Kursk State Medical University (KSMU) opened its representa­tive office in Kuala Lumpur recently.

The event was attended by more than 300 guests including KSMU rector Prof Lazarenko Viktor Anatolyevi­ch and Malaysia’s special envoy to India and South Asia on Infrastruc­ture Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.

Establishe­d in 1935, the university was among the first medical higher institutio­ns in Russia to start teach- ing in the English medium. More than 30,000 students have graduated as qualified medical practition­ers. It currently has 9,000 students from 50 countries.

Since 1997, more than 1,000 Malaysians have graduated as physicians and are working in Malaysia, either in the government or private sectors. More than 550 Malaysian students are currently pursuing their medical studies at KSMU.

In conjunctio­n with the launch- ing, the alumni of KSMU Malaysia also celebrated with the new graduates from the 2017 winter batch and their families who were unable to attend their graduation ceremony in Kursk, Russia.
