A day of fun, food and entertainment
PETALING JAYA: The WOW – Women do Wonders Talks and Bazaar delivered what it set out to do – a day of significance, entertainment, fun and food.
Visitors thronged the event venue at SEGi University Kota Damansara since early morning yesterday and stayed on until the end.
Some shoppers joined in the activities offered such as massage sessions, art classes and reading nooks.
There were some 100 stalls selling artisanal products, handcrafted keepsakes, homemade delicacies and services.
Sandakan native Genevieve D’Souza, 37, showed off her homemade Sandakan UFO tarts – a butter cake base filled with cream custard and topped with meringue. Her original and durian-flavoured tarts sold at RM2.50 and RM3 each.
“I wanted to make something close to my heart and give the people here a taste of Sandakan,” said D’Souza, a banker.
Other exotic treats offered were Nepalese momos (dumplings) by accountant Alicia Mohd, 41, who learnt the recipe from her Nepalese in-laws.
“I made vegetable, mutton, chicken and beef momos, and these come with a special spicy dip,” she said.
Homemaker Nur Hani Abdullah Sani, 35, sold her homemade, all-natural play dough, kinetic sand and other educational toys designed to assist children with learning disabilities.
Made of all-natural ingredients such as flour, the play dough is harmless if accidentally consumed, she said.
“My nine-year-old son has dyslexia and ADHD, and I wanted to help other parents who might not know how to help their children learn,” said Nur Hani, who worked as an engineer for 10 years before quitting her job four years ago.
Entrepreneur Cassandra Tan, 32, made breast milk jewellery for nursing mothers.
“A lot of women have been grateful that they get to keep their breastfeeding memory in jewellery form,” she said.
Tan, who is also an aromatherapist, said 30ml of breast milk could be stored into casings and fashioned into either a locket, bracelet, ring or earrings.
Tan also offered her services for those who wished to have jewellery fashioned out of their loved ones’ hair.
All of these vendors came under Caring Moms, an online platform that provides business opportunities for women to sell and purchase goods and services.
