‘Be creative when making breakfast for kids’

-

KOTA KINABALU: Make breakfast beautiful.

An attractive display of food can entice children into wanting breakfast even though their appetite may be low in the morning, Nestle (Malaysia) Berhad corporate wellness manager Cher Siew Wei said.

“Even adults have trouble working up an appetite for an early morning meal.

“So we must come up with ways to make breakfast look appetising and attractive,” she said when met at the annual Milo Breakfast Day programme held at the Tanjung Aru rugby field yesterday.

Cher said parents need to play a part in finding ways to get their children to start their day with breakfast, which is the most impor- tant meal of the day.

“Parents too should set an example for their kids by having breakfast, even if just a nutritious drink,” Cher said.

Milo business unit consumer marketing manager April Wong noted that at least one in four children skip breakfast, which could cause lethargy.

Children, she said, needed some 1,500 kcal on an average school day to perform at their best.

Yesterday’s annual Breakfast Day programme at Tanjung Aru was attended by families eager to learn more about starting the day right every day.

A drum performance kicked off a 3km run at 6.30am.

Other fun-filled activities includ- ed a treasure hunt, zumba and creative breakfast making demonstrations.

Tents or picnic umbrellas were also set up for families to relax and watch the games.

Free breakfast consisting of Milo drinks, sandwiches and noodles was served to participants.

“We are holding this programme in seven locations nationwide and are targeting about 55,000 participants,” Wong said.

The Milo Malaysia Breakfast Day will now continue in Kuching on Sunday followed by Pasir Gudang (April 8), Kuantan (April 16), Kota Baru (May 6) and Putrajaya (May 14).
