Man determined to complete PhD despite disability

-

BASRI Husin’s life took a complete turn when a spinal cord injury left him disabled, reported Harian Metro. However, that did not deter Basri, 35, from continuing his PhD in Usuluddin (Islamic studies) at Universiti Malaya.

Despite being wheelchair-bound, Basri is determined to complete his PhD by the end of this year.

Basri said he wants to be a lecturer and motivational speaker to others with disabilities.

“The role of an OKU (people with disabilities) is as important as other normal individuals in contributing to the development of society and country,” he said.

The father of two said it was not easy to accept his fate, from being an able-bodied man to being dependent on a wheelchair.

He even tried to hide for six months, as he did not want people to see him and feel sorry for him.

In 2014, Basri underwent sur- gery to remove a blood clot on his spine and was in hospital for 50 days.

“It was a tense period in my life because I was traumatised..

“It was my spiritual strength which helped me build my life and accept my fate,” he said.

>The Malay daily also reported that popular actress Nora Danish and boyfriend Nedim Nazri may tie the knot this Thursday.

According to a Whatsapp mes- sage received by Harian Metro, the wedding is to take place in Seputeh at 7.30pm.

However, when contacted, Nora refused to confirm the matter.

“I will announce it to everyone. Thank you,” she replied.

Prior to this, Nora confirmed that she will marry Nedim, the son of Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, this year but did not want to reveal the details on the date.
