Two Datuks in court on gang involvemen­t and drug abuse charges

KUALA LUMPUR: Two Datuks were charged in courts here and in Malacca for different reasons.

Businessma­n Datuk Mohamed Mustafa Abdul Kadir, 57, also a vice-chief of Bakri Umno division in Johor, was charged in the Ayer Keroh magistrate’s court with abusing methamphet­amine, a type of dangerous drug.

At the High Court here, Datuk K. Elumalai, 43, was hauled up along with nine gang members for their involvemen­t in Geng 21 Japan.

The court was told that Mohamed Mustafa, who claimed trial before magistrate Mohd Firdaus Saleh, allegedly self-administer­ed the dangerous drug.

He allegedly committed the offence at the Narcotics Department of the Malacca police headquarte­rs in Bukit Beruang here at 6pm on Aug 1, 2016.

The court granted bail of RM2,000 with one surety and fixed April 27 for the re-mention of the case. Mohamed Mustafa posted bail. At the High Court here, Elumalai, together with K. Puvendran, 29, M. Kishok Kumar, 26, R. Ganabathy, 31, R. Shamuga Nathan, 38, S. Jeeva, 27, S. Rajandran, 40, M. Suresh, 40, Law Koon Ping, 44, and S. Elango, 36, claimed trial to being members of the Geng 21 Japan group.

They were accused under Section 130V of the Penal Code for being members of an organised criminal group.

They allegedly committed the offence at the Iskandar Regional Developmen­t Area between Jan 18, 2015 and Aug 19, last year.

Justice Azman Abdullah later fixed April 14 for mention. He also set from Aug 21 to 25, Aug 28, between Sept 4 and 8 and from Sept 18 to 20 for the trial.
