Youngster Eain Yow unfazed by the big boys at Asian tournament

PETALING JAYA: Ng Eain Yow is planning to take the fight to the big boys when he makes his debut at the Asian Individual Squash Championships in India.

The 19-year-old reigning world junior champion is certainly not short on confidence after a successful stint in Europe earlier this month where he made the semi-finals of the North of Scotland Open in Aberdeen.

The world No. 101 is now aiming to spring a few surprises against the best in Asia when the competition starts in Chennai tomorrow.

Eain Yow, the 14th seed, has a firstround bye before meeting South Korea’s Park Jong-myoung in the second round. He is, however, expected to meet defending champion and fifth seed Leo Au of Hong Kong in the third round.

“I’ve been working on my weaknesses for the past two weeks. I’m really looking forward to the Asians.

“It will be like the World Championship last year. Then, I made the main draw after beating the higher-ranked players.

“There’s no pressure or expectations on me. I believe with the right tactics I can pull off a few surprises,” said Eain Yow.

Besides Eain Yow, the other Malaysians in the fray are Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan, Ivan Yuen and Mohd Addeen Idrakie.

World No. 28 Nafiizwan, the 2011 champion, also has a first-round bye. He will meet either Indian Aditya Jagtap or Japan’s Ryunosuke Tsukue in the second round.

The third-seeded Nafiizwan is expected to meet Ivan, the seventh seed, in the quarter-finals. In the women’s event, the Malaysian players are Rachel Arnold, Andrea Lee, Zoe Foo and Aifa Azman.
