SERDANG: For the past three months, a Nigerian cook has been making a bundle serving the local drug market.

Catering to addicts in Serdang, the 42-year-old supplied ganja, or cannabis, in small packets until the authorities finally caught up with him.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Megat Mohammad Aminudin Megat Alias said police raided the cook’s apartment in Seri Kembangan on April 22, following a lead.

“We seized some RM2,000 worth of ganja packed in small packets and satchets.

“We believe the suspect had been operating his drug business near a restaurant where he worked,” he told reporters yesterday.

ACP Megat said the suspect would sell small packets, weighing about 5g, for about RM50.

“We are still investigating to uncover more individuals involved in the racket,” he said.

In an unrelated case, seven youth, believed to be members of a motorcycle- stealing gang were arrested in Puchong following several raids.

ACP Megat said the suspects, aged between 15 and 19, would steal the motorcycles and later dismantle the bikes for spare parts.

“We recovered six motorcycles during the raids. “Four were reported missing.” In another case, a group of amateur thieves from Palembang, Indonesia, were caught in the act by police.

ACP Megat said the “geng Palembang” were known to prowl the Serdang and Kajang area for potential targets in the last three to four months.

“The inexperienced thieves used rocks instead of specialised tools to break into vehicles, before pilfering valuables, which would then be sold illegally.

“A police team on patrol caught three suspects in the act at a car park in Puchong in mid-March.

“Interrogation led to another nine suspects at a house in Kajang on March 22.

“Police also recovered items believed to have been stolen,” said ACP Megat.

We are still investigating to uncover more individuals involved in the racket. ACP Megat Mohammad Aminudin Megat Alias
