Showing thanks through Raya care packages

KUALA LUMPUR: Helping to pack Hari Raya Aidilfitri care packages to be sent to the security forces is Ong Kuan Sern’s way of showing his appreciation for the men in uniform.

“I’m glad to give back to the armed forces personnel who have helped the nation,” said the 20-yearold student, who is pursuing a diploma in International Business at Tunku Abdul Rahman University College.

A member of the Territorial Army Regiment, he was among 20 students from various private and public tertiary institutions helping the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) to pack the care packages yesterday at the Bakti building.

A total of 57,000 packages – each containing nasi briyani with fried onions, spicy tomato chicken, vegetable dalca and spicy pickled fruit – will be distributed to those on duty during Hari Raya Aidilfitri in July.

Ong said the packages reminded him of the rations that members of the Territorial Army Regiment received when training.

Bakti president Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, was present to help seal the boxes of spicy pickled fruit.

“We spent about RM541,500 on the packages this year,” she told reporters.

She added that the food was prepared by Dewina Food Industries Sdn Bhd.

Rosmah said the nation was grateful for the services of the security forces personnel, some of whom will be working during Ramadan and Hari Raya.

Also there to help with the packing were members of the Malaysian Association of Youth Clubs and Himpunan Siswazah Kelantan, as well as representatives from the security forces.
