English teacher gets 34 years jail and whipping for raping student

KOTA BARU: An English teacher was jailed 34 years and ordered to be whipped eight times for raping a 15-year-old student twice.

Nurhasliman Ghazali, 36, was accused of raping the teenager two years ago in a house in Machang at 7.30pm on April 23 and at 1am on April 25.

Justice Nazri Ismail ordered 17 years jail and four strokes of rotan for each offence.

The primary school English teacher from Tanah Merah was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping.

In another court, a Thai woman was jailed three years after pleading guilty to five counts of cheating two individuals of RM7,700 cash and jewellery.

Sitimariyam Doloh, 40, pleaded guilty to cheating Nor Azizah Omar, 38, of RM7,000 in cash, four gold bracelets and two necklaces in return for a tray of auctioned jewellery on April 25 and 27.

She was also accused of cheating Nik Masharizan Ismail, 36, of RM700, using the excuse that she needed the money to get someone out from the Tambatan DiRaja police lockup on Feb 25. There was no such person. She was charged separately with five counts of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code that carries a maximum 10-year jail term.

Magistrate’s court judge Mohd Azrul Hasyimi Mohammad sentenced Sitimariyam to two years’ jail for the first case and another year for the second case.

Sitimariyam pleaded not guilty to another charge of cheating Nik Muhammad Aiman Nik Mohamad, 22, of RM5,500 to help release his sibling and cousin from police custody.

The court fixed June 26 for the hearing.
